Lots of events, with many aimed at families, take place at nearby Sutton Hoo and Framlingham Castle.

 

April/May

ALDE VALLEY SPRING FESTIVAL
Great Glemham, IP17 1LS. (20 mins)

The Alde Valley Spring Festival is a four week celebration of food, farming, landscape and the arts that takes place just after Easter each Spring.  The event features work by local and national artists, plus a programme of walks, talks and food events.

 

 

May

WEIRD AND WONDERFUL WOOD

One of our favourite events, this is a specialised art and craft weekend with a difference, dealing solely in wood.  It is a celebration of wonderful, inspiring wood work and talented, imaginative wood workers.

A two-week music and arts festival devoted mainly to classical music.  Also talks, films and exhibitions.

 

THE SUFFOLK SHOW
Trinity Park, near Ipswich IP3 8UH. (21 mins)

The Suffolk Show is a celebration of food, farming and the countryside plus lots of family entertainment over two days.   Many attractions and displays as well as hundreds of retail stalls, animals and equine competitions

 


Early July

HEVENINGHAM HALL COUNTRY FAIR
Near Halesworth, IP19 0PN. (39 mins)

Fabulous day out in the beautiful grounds of Heveningham Hall Country Estate, near Halesworth.  The Country Fair offers numerous attractions, with entertainment for all ages.  Lots of food stalls and shopping.
 

 

Mid July

LATITUDE FESTIVAL

Suffolk’s very own family-friendly festival with music, theatre, comedy, dance, film, cabaret, poetry and literature. Hundreds of performers (including big name headline acts).  A fun-filled cultural adventure!

JIMMY’S HARVEST FESTIVAL
Jimmy’s Farm, Wherstead, Ipswich, IP9 2AR. (25 mins)

Also known as Festival of Sausages & Beer this is an annual celebration of live music, delicious food, and family fun. 


GLEMHAM HALL VINTAGE FESTIVAL
Little Glemham, IP13 0BT. (15 mins)

One-day festival in the gardens of Glemham Hall with vintage stalls, live acts and bands, a quintessential Pimm’s lounge, classic cars, dancing and much more!

FRAMLINGHAM CASTLE JOUSTING & KNIGHTS' TOURNAMENTS

Some of the best events of this kind in a small, picutresque setting (our children love these events and we usually stay the whole day!).

THEATRE IN THE FOREST

Shakespeare productions by the innovative Red Rose Chain. an unforgettable experience outdoors and under the stars!  Based in woodland at Jimmy’s Farm with local food and refreshments.  

 


Mid August

EAST ANGLIAN LIVING HISTORY FAYRE
Museum of East Anglian Life, Stowmarket (35 mins)

See the Museum’s 75 acre site brought alive with historical crafts demonstrated across the site, visitors will see working blacksmiths, wheelwrights, coracle making, hurdle making and charcoal burning to name a few.

 

 

Late September

ALDEBURGH FOOD & DRINK FESTIVAL
Snape Maltings,near Aldeburgh,  IP17 1SR. (30 mins)

A celebration of Suffolk's thriving food & drink scene in the beautiful setting of Snape Maltings. With over 90 food and drink producers from Suffolk all gathered to sell their produce including raw milk, organic vegetables, sourdough bread, award winning beer and spirits from sponsors Adnams, cyder from Aspall and delicious streetfood.  The Festival is family friendly with free tickets for under 15s and free children's activities and hands on cooking workshops.
